It has the same principles as any successful startup: hustle, adapt, and listen. repetition!

In the past, audio transcription was a huge pain point for both clients and transcription professionals. Customers have had a hard time finding a high  quality, reliable transcription service. Copyists had to expend an undue amount of effort to copy and had difficulty maintaining quality when faced with sizes. Through this site the focus became on transcription and building a system that had quality checks and balances built into the process, reduced the manual effort required for transcription and could handle large volumes. The site was founded in 2006 in Edinburgh, Scotland

How does GoTranscript work?

To begin your transcription career at GoTranscript, you first need to take (and pass) the exam. That's basically all you need to do to get accepted and start working with them.

I know, easier said than done, right?
They try to make it easier for you by making recommendations that set their expectations.

Once in, you can access their careers page and choose from any of the available jobs and projects...and of course, you get paid for the jobs you complete and get accepted.

Important information about working at GoTranscript

Here are some other things you need to know:

You will receive email notifications each time a customer uploads a file for decryption.
You will find the description of the specific job on the job page (text format, execution time, audio/video duration, etc.).
You will see your income on the stats page once the final version has been uploaded.
As a transcriber, your transcription work will be reviewed and graded by an editor. Your rating can range from 1 to 5 (I'll talk about this in a bit). The editor will also leave comments on your work so you can improve your transcription as you go.
You can apply to become an editor when you get an average rating above 4.5.
Transcript requirements
As far as transcription companies go, it's relatively easy to get accepted by GoTranscript. But, of course, there are still some requirements that you must meet.

You must have reached the legal age.
Experience is not required, but you do need to pass an exam. And if you fail the test, you can try again in a few days.
You must have a good knowledge of English.
It doesn't matter if you type fast or slow because the response time for 10 minutes of audio is 6 hours. However...you get paid per minute of audio, so if it takes you 6 hours to transcribe 10 minutes of audio, you only get those 10 minutes of audio.
There are no special requirements for a computer. If you have a computer and an internet connection, you are allowed to work on it. Of course, having a fast computer and a reliable internet connection would be an advantage. If you are an experienced transcriber, you may also have equipment such as a quality headset and a foot switch to help you transcribe more efficiently.
If for some reason you don't qualify or don't get a job, you can also make some money online with survey sites like SurveyJunkie.com and inboxdollars.com.

These sites won't make you rich, of course, but they are an easy way to get started online.

It can also be a stepping stone to something more serious, like an online business.

You may be home because of health problems, for example, or because of young people who need care.

If so, a steady online income is what you need, and knowing how and where to start is what you need to get what you want.

Operation and properties of GoTranscript

As a self-starter, you will work as a transcriptionist/transcriber in your entry level position. However, in addition to transcription, there are other functions available in GoTranscript such as...

editor / edit
Beginners will be able to handle common transcription tasks. But GoTranscript also has special scripts for more experienced and skilled transcribers.

These private transcription jobs offer higher salaries...

Medical transcription
Legal transcription
Academic transcription
transcription studies
GoTranscript test/exam
As I said in the previous sections, you need to pass their exam in order to be accepted.

Start with their recommendations, which cover things like different text formats. The difference between full and pure literal, for example, and how to deal with certain utterances such as misspellings, swearing, slang, stuttering, repetitive sentences, etc.

It also talks about timestamps, using speaker tags, and working with abbreviations and acronyms, among other things.

Like I said earlier, transcription is more than just typing or entering data.

It is important that you fully understand what they are asking for before the test, which is a short audio or video.

Also, be prepared for an English language proficiency test because they often do the exam that way. Not to make it more difficult for you, but because you will end up with a lot of non-native English projects with accents that may or may not be difficult to decipher.

They can also use a low quality audio/video file for their tests. Again, this is intended to prepare you for similar tasks once you are accepted.

GoTranscript Pay

According to their website, GoTranscript pays transcription users up to $0.60 per minute of audio/video.

They also say that the average earnings can be around $150 per month. And that the highest earners earn up to $1,215 per month.
I'm sure they have some basis for the above statistic, but I just want to say something about it.

First of all, note that they said up to 60 cents per minute of audio/video. This means that the limit is 60 cents per minute for audio/video.

In fact, the payment can be as low as 60 cents per minute of audio/video, because it will depend on several factors (such as audio/video quality, duration, execution time, etc.).

I am not saying this to discourage you, but for you to come up with accurate forecasts.
At an average of $150 a month... that seems reasonable. However, they did not specify whether this applied to general transcription, specialized (higher paid) transcription, or editorial work.

At least I didn't find this information, but if you have experience with GoTranscript and updated information on the subject, please share in the comments section below.

As for the $1,215 figure they gave for their best winnings, I have no reason to dispute their claim. However, I will say that if you're just starting out, this probably isn't a goal to pursue right away.

Highly paid transcribers are highly experienced and the best goal is to develop these skills.

Their obvious skills such as typing speed and accuracy. But if you've never recorded before, you might be surprised how easy it is to confuse poor sound quality, room noise, multiple voices interrupting each other, hard-to-interpret accents, etc...

This short video provides some tips to help you improve transcription efficiency and reduce processing time.
With experience and practice, you will be able to deal with these issues more effectively, but again... this is a skill that you will have to develop over time.

As I mentioned earlier, I don't discourage you from joining GoTranscript and their pay is decent for the transcription platform. But depending on your financial needs, this probably won't provide a steady income. At least not on my own...

Full-time freelancers usually have more than one piece of iron on the fire, so to speak. For example, you can sign up for several transcription companies. You can drive to get an Uber or walk your dogs if you don't have a copy job. Again...just examples.

You can even earn a few extra bucks in your spare time on online survey sites.

Market research companies like Survey Junkie are an easy way to make money for your opinion. Inbox Dollars is another site that pays for things you might do online, like searching the web, watching videos, and visiting websites.

To be very clear here... You also won't make a recurring income by taking online surveys, but if you've never made money online before, it might be a good place to start.

For something more important, an online business might be just what you're looking for.

Earning money from home could be something you need for health issues, childcare, or maybe you're just tired of working for your boss.

If so, knowing how (and where) to start is what you need to get what you want.
Coming back to the recording fee, it ultimately depends on the fee per minute of audio/video and the rate at which you transcribe each minute of audio/video.

The actual number of hours worked (how your pay is calculated) does not matter.
GoTranscript schedule and payment method
GoTranscript pays weekly (every Friday).

Payments are currently processed through PayPal and Payoneer, so you must have an account with at least one of these payment companies.

And some other good news (especially if you're a freelancer and get paid through PayPal): GoTranscript covers PayPal fees, so you won't be charged per transaction when you check out.

Oh...and there is currently no minimum withdrawal limit.

Is GoTranscript legal?

I will not beat around the bush. You may have read this by now and already know that GoTranscript is legal...but we're talking about making money online...so no one will blame you for feeling like you're drowning in a scam and wondering if GoTranscript is just something else.

The good news is that GoTranscript is 100% legit.

But you're not here just to take my word for it, but to find real evidence to calm you down.

The first good sign is that they've been around since 2005...or 15 years at the time of this review.

I've also seen a lot of positive feedback from clients and freelance accountants (which I'll cover in more detail later). And while there are negative reviews, I don't remember reading any accusations of fraud.

You can also be sure that GoTranscript has an online following and a community to support them.

Their Facebook page, which was created in 2011, currently has over 11,000 followers and likes. And their Twitter account (over 2,400 tweets so far) has over 3,000 followers.

These are by no means record numbers, but they are not what you usually see when it comes to scams.

GoTranscript also offers real ways to contact them, including a phone number and Skype, as well as a live chat option on their website.
