The latest addition to Anker's highly acclaimed line of headphones is the Soundcore Space Q45. With active noise cancellation (ANC), Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint technology, Hi-Res Audio certification, LDAC support, and some of the best battery life on the market, it offers the best specs for a relatively low price ($149).

Performance-wise, these headphones offer spacious, powerful sound, ANC, and excellent connectivity for HD streaming on many platforms (such as iOS, Android, and Windows). Plus, they share some of the same flaws as previous Anker models, like a bulky design, clumsy smart controls, and ineffective wind reduction.

Review   cost and availability  Anker Soundcore Space Q45

Attractive price
Available in black now (other options arriving later in 2022)
The Soundcore Space Q45 costs $149 and is available through Anker or Amazon (Opens in a new tab). At launch, only black is offered; Navy and white will be available later this year. A carrying case, USB-C charging cable, aux cable, and user manual are included in the box.

These products join a competitive mid-range market for noise-cancelling headphones currently dominated by the excellent Cleer Enduro ANC ($139) and the beloved Urbanista Miami ($149). Spend more on category leaders like the Sony WH-1000XM5 or Sennheiser Momentum 4 for even more superior performance.

Design and comfort review   Anker Soundcore Space Q45

  • Somewhat clumsy appearance
  • Solid construction
  • Most of the time
The Space Q45 looks identical to the Life Q35, except for the color selections and the Space Series logo on the left earcup. It's good news. The premium quality of the aluminum alloy hinge and thick plastic clips ensure that the Space Q45 will not break if it falls to the ground. Also excellent details are the matte finish and the Soundcore branding embossed on the front of the earcup.
The carrying case hasn't changed much either, but instead of a diagram showing how everything is packed, there's a plastic template inside to make packing headphones and accessories easier. But I like the tactile feel of the Life Q35 case better than the Space Q45 case stretched out.

According to Anker's specifications, the Space Q45 weighs 10.3 ounces more than the Life Q35 (9.6 ounces). These headphones feel lighter and more comfortable than most ANC models, thanks to the materials used. The earpiece padding is soothing to the ears, while the soft, skin-friendly cushioning of the lower headband reduces pressure on the skull.

Notes on the controls   and digital assistant  Anker Soundcore Space Q45

  • Simple and trustworthy controls
  • There is no support for touch gestures or motion detection
  • Unreliable voice assistant at times
Anker has yet to join the touch controls trend. While the Space Q45 lacks touch gestures and wear detection (there's no pausing while you take off the headphones), it does have a number of media controls that can be used by pressing the multipurpose buttons.

The rockers do what they're supposed to do in addition to other things (skip forward/backward), while the right earcup has a play/pause button that can also activate the digital assistant (two presses). The power/pairing button, as well as the NC button that activates listening modes or the BassUp feature, are located on the left earcup. All of these buttons are easy to find and have reliable tactile feedback to reassure listeners that the intended commands are being executed.

The virtual assistant can sometimes behave strangely. Compared to Siri, Google Assistant was more useful. Google's AI bot recognized and executed the majority of requests (such as "Open Spotify") accurately, but often fell short when given complex instructions; When prompted to open the Bleacher Report website, it took about 3 seconds. My biggest annoyance was when I tried to use Siri on my MacBook Pro because it frequently confused simple requests like "What's next?" About "What's your next alarm?"

Anker Soundcore Space Q45  audio quality  review

  • Enthusiasm and a great voice
  • LDAC support on a high level of compatible devices
  • Tools to customize the instrumental sound
For a mid-range headphone, the Space Q45 has some great audio specs. Under the hood are 40mm dual-layer diaphragm drivers, which enhance the low end and also produce rich mids and crisp highs. A BassUp option gives music more oomph, and Anker's sound system is expansive and immersive; The technology seems more advanced this time around. Configurable EQ and over 20 presets tailored to different music genres and content may be enabled by users in the Sound Effects option via the companion app.

Let's talk about sound quality. Even in BassUp mode, thunderous synths on Two Feet's "I Feel Like I'm Drown" wildly pounded my eardrums without any distortion. I could hear the low frequencies and could feel every blues guitar chord. Jazz greats have maintained this level of realism. Recordings like "In A Sentimental Mood" by Duke Ellington were intimate to listen to because of the smooth drum rolls, soothing saxophone, and hi-hats that made me feel like I was in the front row of a show.

Although the Space Q45 lacks Qualcomm's aptX codec support for AAC and SBC codecs, it has high-quality LDAC codec compatibility that can handle 990kbps WiFi streams from compatible playback devices. As a result, the Space Q45 is now comparable to more expensive devices like the Sony WH-1000XM5.

While listening with the noise cancellation turned on, the bass is somewhat boosted without affecting the other frequencies.

How does wired mode work? Although I noticed that the bass and volume levels were a bit lower compared to the wifi mode, you should expect clear and detailed audio performance.

Another feature that sets the Space Q45 apart from many other models is the Safe Volume setting. This monitors the loudness of the sound coming from your headphones in real time and determines if it could be harmful to your hearing.

Anker Soundcore Space Q45  active noise cancellation review

  • successful ANC
  • Unexpectedly strong wind resistance
  • Great dual surround listening mode
The Space Q45 is designed by Anker with a flexible ambient sound mode that offers two settings for both noise cancellation and transparency. And when used appropriately, they all work well. The headphones confirm that they effectively reduce wind noise and block out 85% of background noise.

You can choose between five different degrees of ANC by turning on the companion app's Noise Cancellation setting. The Space Q45 shuts down an impressive amount of noise as you climb. Some high-frequency sounds, such as babies screaming and whistles, caught my attention, but the majority of low- and mid-frequency sounds went unnoticed. Anker warns that when the noise reduction level is set to its highest point, the effect of low-frequency noise reduction will be stronger (the pressure inside the ear will be higher). After using it for 30 minutes, I felt deflated. Compression was reduced and noise neutralization was adequate when the ANC was set to level 3, however I could still hear some noises, such as dogs barking and landscaping equipment.

It was better and automatically adjusted to the noise levels around me when I switched to Adaptive. While she struggled with loud noises, she was less distracted when music was playing loudly. And Anker's four-microphone setup and wind noise reduction function also reduce the effects of pulsing.

The use of the transparency method was equally satisfactory. The custom option increases the pass-through effect of the ambient sound as you turn it up, just as it does in ANC mode. I could hear noises at close range and high-frequency sounds that were far away when I raised it to level 5. Conversations worked better in talk mode, which improved the intelligibility of speech so it could be heard clearly and loudly in various settings.

Review of  the unique features and application of  the Anker Soundcore Space Q45

  • Numerous cost benefits
  • I can't find my headphones
Extended functionality can be accessed through the Soundcore app, as with all Anker Soundcore products. You can get all the previously mentioned features by downloading it: wind noise reduction, ANC/ambient sound, safe volume, sound effects, and sound mode.

A device list that shows the devices the headphones are currently connected to, a battery level indicator, firmware updates, and an auto-off feature are other noteworthy features. In addition, you can enable listening modes without opening the application by placing a widget on the home screen of your smartphone.

Oddly enough, Anker decided to remove several functions from previous models, such as Superior Sleep, which is essentially an audio mode with soothing ambient sounds to help you fall asleep.

The fourth generation of Anker's noise-canceling headphones, the Soundcore Space Q45, still doesn't have a Find My Headphones feature.

Review of battery life and charging status for the Anker Soundcore Space Q45

  • Exceptional battery life
  • Fast and powerful charging
Anker has never been known to defraud customers about battery life. After all, providing powerful portable chargers was how they established their reputation. No one should be surprised that, no matter how you use your headphones, the Space Q45 delivers some of the longest playing times in its class.

With 50 hours of use with ANC on and 65 hours without it, a full charge puts it in the same league as the Sennheiser Momentum 4. (60 hours). Be aware that these playtime estimates are inaccurate because the large size and other features reduce it by 2 to 3 hours, but it's still excellent. A month of use is possible for those who use Space Q45 moderately. Audiophiles like myself may listen to ANC for about two weeks before needing to recharge.

Battery life is a serious drainer and runs out most quickly when LDAC is running. You still have between 37 and 45 hours if you use the function, though. However, this exceeds the battery life of the Sony WH-1000XM5 (30-40 hours) and Bose 700 (20 hours) on a full charge.

If that wasn't impressive enough, Anker's fast charging technology enables you to get 4 hours of listening time in just 5 minutes.

Review of the   Anker Soundcore Space Q45  connectivity and quality

  • Satisfactory for voice and video calls
  • Connected mode wind reduction is not as effective as ANC.
  • It works well with Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint technology.
Although it misses a lot cut out our list of the best headphones for voice and video calls, this is one of the best calling headphones from Anker. The AI-enhanced microphones do a decent job of distinguishing and picking up human speech, but the wind noise-canceling technology on the headphones isn't very effective.

Loud, clear conversations, sometimes mixed with muffled mutterings, were overheard. Calls I made indoors or in the backyard had good feedback, but calls I made in front of the house weren't well received because the microphones picked up a lot of background noise. Although the whirring sounds caused by the wind and moving cars weren't very loud, it made it difficult for others to hear me on the other end.

Bluetooth 5.3 is working properly. In open areas, it was able to reach wireless ranges of up to 80 feet. It took longer to pair up than I expected; Sometimes it connects instantly to recognized devices, other times I wait impatiently for me to manually pair it with devices using Bluetooth settings. For one-click pairing with Android devices, Google Fast Pair would have been a good feature, but Anker decided against it.

The Space Q45 has multipoint technology to pair with two devices at once, which is an advantage. Enter the device list setting in the app to play the other device if you are having trouble connecting to two audio sources simultaneously. Keep in mind that LDAC and multipoint cannot be used together.

Anker Soundcore Space Q45 review

Soundcore Space Q45 drivers are surprisingly affordable. It has excellent sound, outstanding ANC, and amazing battery life thanks to its high-end specifications and unique features. Anker mostly lives up to its claims, but not all, as evidenced by the insufficient digital assistant and insufficient wind reduction during calls. Not everyone may like the bulky design.

If you can look past its faults, the Space Q45 will reward you with powerful sound and noise cancellation at a fraction of the cost of the best Bose and Sony models.
