TranscribeMe is a transcription service founded in September 2011 serving clients and freelance transcribers worldwide.

It is based in San Francisco, California with offices in Auckland, New Zealand and Singapore.

You probably know how transcription functions work, but if you're just getting started, the transcriber listens to audio and/or video files and inserts what it hears into your document.

TranscribeMe is open to beginners, so if you're looking to earn some extra income with your transcription business, this could be for you.

How does Transcribe Me work?

First let me say, transcription is not as easy as it sounds. This is a great way to make money online, but often you will hear many people talking to each other with heavy accents and slang that is difficult to understand. And on top of that...the sound is often of poor quality.

This is a skill that you develop over time, and the better you get, the more you can earn.

But it is not as easy as it seems.

Here is an overview of how TranscribeMe works:

Customer sends an audio or video file to TranscribeMe that needs to be transcribed.

They divide the audio file into sections ranging from seconds to several minutes in length.

The files are then provided to the transcribers at TranscribeMe's WorkHub.

You select a file to work with, submit the finished transcript to TranscribeMe and get paid if it is accepted by the site moderators.

The TranscribeMe QA team will match, edit, and make corrections to the snippet files.

They add timestamps and speaker IDs to the final version.

After the final review, they present the script to the client and if all goes well; You make money.

The application process for TranscribeMe

TranscribeMe welcomes newcomers, and registration and submission are free.

The application process is as follows:

To get started, register online by filling out the application form and providing your email address. Please note: Please ensure that you access their application form using a Google Chrome browser.

After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email.

Once you verify your email address, you will receive a link to the online training program.

Watch a short explainer video that gives a brief overview of TranscribeMe. They will show you how to transcribe audio using their system and you will also have access to their style guide so you can prepare for the exam.

After training, you will need to pass an entrance exam, which is located in the "Exam" tab. Your score is determined by how accurately you copy and how well you follow their style guide.

It can take up to 12 business days to verify your test pass.

If you succeed, you can start working right away. Keep in mind, however, that it does not guarantee that it will work.

TranscribeMe requirements

While they are set for beginners, there are some requirements. Here's what you need to get started with TranscribeMe.

You must be of legal age to work in your area, which you can verify by scanning your driver's license or ID.

An email address, of course.

You must also pass their exam.

An active PayPal account to receive payments.

equipment requirements

Unlike similar companies that have strict requirements, TranscribeMe is relatively affordable. You don't need to buy burning software.

Of course, you will need a computer and a high-speed internet connection. The faster and more reliable, the better.

And since this is a decoding job, I recommend buying a set of high-quality headphones, preferably full-sized. You can, of course, transcribe using your computer's built-in speaker, but as mentioned earlier, you often deal with poor sound quality, multiple voices, and hard-to-understand accents.

The better your listening equipment, the easier your job will be. A quiet, distraction-free workspace with minimal background noise will also help.

It is not required to be a copy switcher, but it will help you a lot. This will allow you to control the audio playback function without stopping to type.

Requirements imprecision

Your submitted files will be forwarded to our team of editors who allow you to correct up to 30% of your work. It is very generous in my opinion.

However, if more than 30% needs to be corrected, your file will be rejected.

What is it like working at TranscribeMe

For detailed information, you can refer to the Transcriber manual. Although copying seems simple, there are a few things you need to be aware of.

Yes, transcription is a great way to work from home, but that doesn't mean it's completely stress-free. I have already mentioned some difficulties.

Also, as a freelancer, the companies you work for are your clients. You run your own "independent business" and, like any business, you are responsible for good customer service.

This means meeting deadlines, being a great communicator, and being good at what you do. In this case, it is good to be able to enter data, listen and write.

Another thing data entry professionals rarely talk about is bounce. Making money online in this way is great, but you must remember that you may end up with this letter; The company rejects your business.

This does not mean that you will be fired and that Transcribe me allows investigation of a waiver dispute. You can dispute a rejection by filling out a job rejection request form and a member of the team will review it and email it to you with the outcome and either explain why you were rejected or credit the money you've earned to your account.

Overall, though, you shouldn't expect the show to be complete.

How much does TranscribeMe pay?

While some companies like GMR Transcription pay per minute of audio, TranscribeMe pays between $15 and $22 per hour of audio.

Now it is important to understand that a sound clock is not the same as a real clock. You will not be making $15-22 an hour because 1 hour of audio can take 3-4 hours to transcribe.

If you are an entry-level student, your salary will be lower, while people with special education, such as medicine or law, will earn more.

If you do some math, and it takes you four hours to transcribe a 60-minute audio file (one audio hour), your real hourly wage is $5. If you can do this in two to three hours, your hourly wage will be higher.

So speed and accuracy are important. If it takes you five minutes to transcribe one minute of audio, it will be hard for you to earn extra money this way.

This is when the poor sound quality can be disappointing.

So how much money you can make depends on how effective you are. How fast and accurate are you?

This also depends on the amount of work available, and this is one of the complaints I'll get to later.

Payment is via PayPal, and while I've read conflicting statements, there doesn't seem to be a minimum that needs to be met at this time.

Try TranscribeMe

You can access the TranscibeMe exam through the exam portal. Once inside, you'll see an audio player with controls for playback, fast forward, rewind, and volume.

Below that is a text field where you will enter the sound you hear.

How long does the exam take?

The TranscribeMe test takes about 3 hours and is divided into several sections, so if you can't pass the test in one sitting, you can save each section and come back to it later.

Important: You must press "Save" or "Next" to go to the section, because their system will not save incomplete text. They also cannot recover incomplete audio files.

You have two attempts to take the test, and if you fail, you must wait 30 days before taking the test again.

Is TranscribeMe legal?

If you've read this far, you already know that TranscibeMe is legal. IF YOU JUMP THROUGH THIS SECTION AND SWITCH TO FIND OUT... You'll be happy to know that it's not a scam.

Operating since 2011, it has built up an excellent reputation.

Apart from the actual physical location, you can see that their LinkedIn profile has more than 4,000 followers and their Twitter account has more than 1,600 followers.

These aren't huge numbers, but they are more than you could find if it were a scam.

Their Facebook page serves as a community for employees, customers and transcribers with nearly 8,000 likes and followers and a rating of 4 out of 5.

On their YouTube channel you will find 4,000 subscribers, give or take...and a video to learn more about them and how their system works.

What I love, which can't be said of many other transcription companies, is that they have a lot of positive reviews and high ratings.

Yes, TranscribeMe is legal, and with more and more people looking for work from home jobs, it is gaining in popularity.
